Louis Gilrod

Jewish-American actor and lyricist (born on September 10, 1879 in Ulanov, Podolsk province, Russian Empire (now Khmelnitsky district, Vinnitsa region, Ukraine). Studied in cheder and at school. At the age of 12, Gilrod moved to the United States with his father. His father soon returned, but Gilrod stayed with his uncle in Newark and began to study refrigeration. But he did not like this profession. At the age of 17, Gilrod organized the Drama Club, in which he played the part of Moishele in Yosef Lateiner's play "The Greenhorns." Gilrod also began writing lyrics for songs in plays that turned out to be very popular.
