Elainie Lillios (Chicago, USA, 1968) is acclaimed as one of the “contemporary masters of the medium” by MIT Press’s Computer Music Journal, Elainie Lillios creates works that reflect her fascination with listening, sound, space, time, immersion, and anecdote. Her compositions include stereo, multi-channel, and Ambisonic fixed media works, instrument(s) with live electronics, collaborative experimental audio/visual animations, and installations. Elainie’s work has been recognised through awards, grants, and commissions from leading organisations including the Fromm Foundation, Barlow Endowment, Fulbright Scholar Program, Concours Internationale de Bourges, Areon Flutes International Competition, Electroacoustic Piano International Competition, Destellos Foundation, Concurso Internacional de Música Electroacústica de São Paulo, Concorso Internazionale Russolo, Pierre Schaeffer Competition, and others. Her works are published by Centaur, Innova, MSR Classics, Ravello, StudioPANaroma, La Muse en Circuit, New Adventures in Sound Art, SEAMUS, Irritable Hedgehog and Leonardo Music Journal. Lillios studied with Larry Austin (composition and computer music, University of North Texas, Denton, USA), Jonty Harrison (University of Birmingham, UK, 2020), Jon Christopher Nelson, Joseph Klein, and James Phelps. She was awarded First Prize in the 36th International Competition of Electroacoustic Music and Sonic Art in Bourges in 2009. In 2012, she was awarded a commission from the Groupe de Recherches Musicales in Paris. Her works have been included in several festivals such as Electronic Music Midwest Vox Novus's Fifteen Minutes of Fame, and 60x60. She has been a professor at Bowling Green State University, Ohio, since 2000 ans currently (2020) serves as Director of Composition Activities for SPLICE and as Professor of Creative Arts Excellence.
