Denise Clark is a powerful, old-fashioned, gospel singing “Powerhouse”. Denise was reared in Detroit and educated in the city’s public school system. Denise’s musical career started at age 5 singing in her church; the Whitlock Memorial Church of God in Christ in Detroit, Michigan. Denise remembers singing in Sunday school, the Sunshine Band, and later in the church choir. Denise with her two sisters, the younger of which is her twin, sang in a group called “Tommy Eubanks and the Marshall Trio”, which was affectionally known as “Tommy’s Angels”. At a very early age Denise had the opportunity to sing live on gospel radio in Detroit, WCHB. “ I remember so vividly walking down the middle of the street, my sisters and I, going to our neighbor’s house to catch a ride to the radio station. Mrs. Brown was the radio announcer. The gospel hour was from 4:30 a.m. to 5:30 a.m.; that was so early for a 12 year old, she recants”. While Denise had sang at her local church and on the radio, her first encounter with a mass choir with seemingly hundreds and hundreds of choir members was with the late Dr. Mattie Moss Clark at Bailey Cathedral, in Detroit, Michigan. That was an experience that will never be forgotten, she replies. Dr. Clark was strict and hard to read at times but she loved everybody. And yes, she did throw shoes, songbooks, flyers, etc. into the section that repeatedly missed their part. None of this was done to harm anyone but to insure we remembered our parts no matter what. It was not until I graduated college and joined the Southwest Michigan State Choir that I had a personal relationship with Dr. Clark and became one of her lead vocalists. Her legacy will live on forever in the hearts of musicians everywhere. Denise has been blessed and favored to minister in song at countless outdoor events, parks and county fairs, the one most noted was the 1982 World’s Fair, Knoxville, Tennessee where Denise, a member of the Knoxville Concert Choir, performed several key songs 58 nights consecutively for the production “ A Gift Of Song; A Glorious Heritage” written and directed by Mrs. Ruth Stokes. Denise has sang at the Kennedy Center, Washington D.C; on the Bobby Jones Gospel Showcase; and at many church conventions (i.e. C.O.G.I.C. AIM Convention, (Indianapolis, IN), The Potters House, (Dallas, Texas), Seven Day Adventist Conference,(Knoxville, TN), P.C.A.F. Youth Convention, (Indianapolis, IN), P.A.W. Convention, (Nashville, TN), National Baptist Education Congress, (Memphis, TN), New Direction Empowerment Conference, (Memphis, TN). Denise is a former member of the nationally acclaimed gospel sensation Lamar Campbell and Spirit of Praise. Denise has been lead vocalist on five projects (i.e. Lamar Campbell & Spirit of Praise, When I Think About You, I Need Your Spirit, Praise Collection Volume 1, and Confessions of A Worshipper). In addition, as a recognized lead vocalist, Denise has recorded with the Gospel Music Workshop of America (GMWA) Women of Worship Choir; the Heaven on Earth Conference Choir, Indianapolis, IN; EMI’s Great Women of Gospel (1999), Great Women of Gospel (2000, 2001), Great Women of Gospel (2004); and WOW Gospel 2004 Worship CD and DVD. Denise holds a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Business from Knoxville College, Knoxville, Tennessee and is also a Licensed Cosmetologist, graduating from ABC Beauty College, Indianapolis, Indiana. Denise is married to Minister Theodore T. Clark and is the mother of two wonderful sons: Blake Anthony and Reuben Fitzgerald Clark. August 2006, Denise Clark released her first solo CD. This freshman project, produced by Daniel Weatherspoon, 4 Spoonfed Productions, is entitled “End of The Day.” Not to be confused with Denise Clark-Bradford.
