Mimi Mitchell

Classical violinist. Mimi Mitchell studied both violin and musicology in America and came to the Netherlands to study baroque violin with Jaap Schröder at the Sweelinck Conservatorium Amsterdam. As co-founder of The Locke Consort, she won first prizes at competitions in England, the Netherlands and the United States with this ensemble. In addition, Mimi Mitchell plays at home and abroad with various leading early music ensembles such as In Stil Moderno and The Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra (conducted by Ton Koopman), Anima Eterna (conducted by Jos van Immerseel) and Currende (conducted by Erik Van Nevel). As a guest player she has performed with London Baroque and Renaissance violin with The Parley of Instruments in England. Her musicological research has brought to light many unknown compositions. As a much sought-after guest speaker and teacher, she gives lectures and master classes in the Netherlands, England, Germany, Croatia and the United States. Mimi is currently writing her dissertation at the University of Amsterdam about the revival of the Baroque violin, for which she interviewed the older generation of Baroque violin pioneers. In Israel, Australia, the Netherlands, England, Austria and the U.S. she has given lectures on this.
