The Umzansi Zulu Dancers is a professional men’s ngoma team based in KwaZulu-Natal and Johannesburg, South Africa and led by dancer, composer, and choreographer Siyazi Zulu. The music combines dance (Umzansi is a style of dance practiced by Zulu peoples of South Africa), call and response singing, chants, shouts done to traditional instruments and also to western instruments (guitar, bass guitar, concertina). They first appeared as dancers in a Johnny Clegg video. In 1987 they appeared for three months at the Festival d'Angouleme world music festival in France. There they recorded their first album.
