Soul group Members: Eugene Dixon (lead), his cousin Shirley Johnson (7) a.k.a. Shirley Jones (tenor/soprano), James Lowe (second tenor), Earl Edwards (baritone) and Ben Broyles (bass voice). Active in the early 60's Chicago soul scene. Formed in the neighborhood of Englewood. Although they recorded "Duke Of Earl" as a group, Eugene Dixon took the credit of the tremendous success of the song, and started recording as Gene Chandler (and later, The Duke Of Earl) at Vee Jay Records. He was replaced by Charles Davis (4). When Eugene Dixon left the group, his cousin Shirley Johnson (7) left as well and she was replaced by Margaret "Cookie" Stone. In 1964 the line-up of the group cinsisted of Claude McRae (lead), Richard Dixon, Earl Edwards and James Lowe. With this line up they recorded two singles at Jerry-O Records before disbanding.
