Swedish count, diplomat, librarian and poet, born September 8, 1841 in Stockholm, died there May 19, 1903. He was the son of Count Nils Snoilsky and Sigrid, born Banér (Count's family). Through his mother, he was thus befriended by many of Sweden's most important noble families. He became a member of the Swedish Academy in 1876. In connection with divorce and remarriage, he moved abroad in 1879 and lived then mainly in Dresden in Germany. He returned to Sweden in 1890, when he became chief librarian at the Royal Library. During his Uppsala time, he was a member of the Nameless Society. Snoilsky was called honorary doctor of philosophy at the jubilee party in Uppsala in 1893. In 1895 he became an honorary member of the Swedish Academy of Sciences and of the Society of Science and Knowledge in Gothenburg. A medal was won over him in 1887.
