Björn Holmsten

Swedish jazz musician (clarinetist and saxophonist), born April 29, 1942 in Stockholm. Holmsten is the son of the actor Karl-Arne Holmsten and the singer Saga Sjöberg. He started playing clarinet at the age of 11 when he got one from his father. In the years 1960–1962, Holmsten played in Staffan Ehrling's quintet. He then played in various small bands while performing military service, and studied engineering at the Stockholm Institute of Technology (STI). In 1969 Holmsten got to know Ted Ström and they started playing together at a club on Norrlandsgatan. The band Contact (8) was eventually born there. The band played actively until 1972 and received a Grammy in 1971 for the music album "Hon kom över mon".
