Washington, D.C. post-rock outfit the Sorts formed in the autumn of 1994, and was originally comprised of singer/guitarist Joshua LaRue (formerly the drummer of Austin's Jack O Fire and DC's Rain Like the Sound of Trains), bassist Stuart Fletcher, and former Hoover drummer Chris Farrall. The group's debut album, Common Time, was released in late 1995, followed a year later by This Is Gateway Sounds; and then More There in 1998. The Boom (3) saxophonist Carlo Cennamo signed on for the fourth Sorts LP, The Hawaiian Bronco (also 1998), with pianist Vin Novara (an alumnus of the Crownhate Ruin) expanding the lineup to a five-piece for 1999's Contemporary Music. Six Plus, the group's final record was released 2002, and included former Hoover / Crownhate Ruin guitarist Joe McRedmond.
