Jim Martin played saxophone and was a country music producer. He was born June 17, 1937 in Springfield, Missouri and died February 23, 2009 in Springfield, Missouri. Jim began playing the saxophone professionally at the age of 15 in and around Springfield and played extensively throughout his school years. Following college Jim worked in the aerospace industry in California and in sales in the New York, New Jersey area; all the while playing the saxophone. Jim Martin returned to Springfield and entered into music publishing and production. His publishing endeavors garnered success with recordings by Gene Watson, John Anderson, Tammy Wynette, Boxcar Willie and Hank Williams, Jr. and many others. His production credits included several Boxcar Willie albums and he was instrumental in building his career into an internationally recognized recording artist. Jim also published, recorded and helped the careers of many local and national writers and performers. Jim was a charter member of the Country Music Association and an ASCAP award winning publisher. Jim maintained a healthy working interest in the music business and performing into semi-retirement and had recently completed two albums of his own which will sadly have to be released posthumously.
