Kristoff K.Roll is a sound art duo born in Paris (France) in 1990. 2012 Biography These two noise musicians — Carole Rieussec and J-Kristoff Camps — are building “a sonic maze with multiple entrances.” Together he/she move from acousmatics to electroacoustic improvisation and sound theatre, also delving in radio art, sound installation, text composition, and performance. Their approach is articulated around speech, space, and objects. In the ’90s, he/she were major players in the advent of the electroacoustic composition studio live on-stage. The studio and its own logic, kept hidden from the public until then, became instruments of live improvised music-making. A current of creative effervescence rose from this move to the stage. He/she experiment with sound diffusion outside the concert setting, from intimate listening to distracted listening, from headphones to talking wall, from minimal diffusion to gigantic sonic projection. He/she have given multiple concerts in France and aboard. He/she play with a wide range of international artists, including musicians, dancers, poets, puppeteers, circus artists, and filmmakers. 2005 Biography Born at about the same time (the sixties), but five thousand kilometers apart. Studied acousmatic music in Lyon with Denis Dufour, but not at the same time. Traveled to Madagascar, but at different times of the year. One composed at the studio Exercice de style, the other at studio La muse en circuit. They finally came together around a turntable in Paris with the improvisational sextet Les arènes du vinyle in 1990. After their miniatures entitled Les Hey! tu sais quoi… (Hey! you know what?) they left for Central America and released the musical travel diary entitled Corazón Road. Then off again, this time to West Africa, where rather than a travel diary they composed a series of pieces entitled Le petit bruit d’à côté du cœur du monde (The Little Murmur From the Heart of the World), each performance of which presents a new variation on the same story. They returned to Paris only to turn around and leave for Montreuil, the second largest city in Mali after Bamako. Hung out in Brazil, very happily. Through hanging around street corners they realized Des travailleurs de la nuit, à l’amie des objets (From Night Workers to the Friend of Things), a long political epic that is short in its acousmatic version, and which brings together the ‘bearers of utopia’, companions and friends. Then a portrait of the improviser Daunik Lazro: Le Portrait de Daunik Lazro. They also improvised with La Pièce, a sound and space improvisation group. And then there are other things not wholly unrelated to all of this...
