Alexander Williams

American clarinet player, died June, 13 2003. Former member of Local 802, joined the New York Symphony in 1924, under Walter Damrosch. In 1928 he became a member of the New York Philharmonic under Arturo Toscanini until 1948, when he joined the NBC Symphony as solo clarinetist. He met and married Frances Blaisdell in 1937. Together they formed Blaisdell Woodwind Quintet and Blaisdell Trio. The couple had two children, John and Alexandra Hawley, flutist and professor at Stanford University.
