German pianist, conductor, arranger and composer, student of Arnold Schoenberg. In the early 1930s, Goehr served as the accompanist for two male vocal quartets, the Melody Gents, that recorded on Parlophon and Odeon, and Die Abels a.k.a. Abel-Quartett, who recorded on Kristall (2). As he was Jewish, he left Germany in 1933 for Paris. After being interned for a while as a "hostile alien" in France, he was able to escape to the United States with the help of Schönberg. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army and became a US ciitizen. He orchestrated music for movies and the Broadway musical "A flagis born" as well as the two Kurt-Weill musicals "One touch of Venus" and "Lady in the dark" Most famous for providing the melody for the French song "La Chanson Des Rues." Brother of Walter Goehr, uncle of Alexander Goehr. b. Dec. 25, 1906 in Berlin, Germany d. 1981 in Santa Barbara, CA, USA
