Lynn Murdock, Erling Wold, Everett Shock and Brian Woodbury formed the music/theatre project Splendrix in San Francisco around 1979. All members worked for a cooperation of the same name at the time. They performed in a San Francisco theatre for several weeks. When they promoted their music/shows on Berkley University radio (including giving out a phone number), Henry Kaiser called and asked for collaboration. Murdock, Wold and Shock formed Name with high school friends Mark Crawford, Richard Crawford and Bob Adams, when Woodbury moved to Southern California. They also asked Kaiser to join, who brought in Judith Statham as a 4th guitarist. The band played local shows in the Bay Area with acts like Negativland and ran their own label Spooky Pooch Records. A demo they recorded for Warner Brothers with Phil Brown became their first EP. Years later, all members except Statham, performed on the album [m1574502], which is basically a Name album under a different moniker.
