George Trevare

Australian trombonist, bandleader & arranger (b. Lahore, India 1907 - d. Sydney 12 jan., 1968) Some sources claim he was born in San Diego, Ca. in 1909 and came to Australia as a child who was travelling Australia with Sousa's Band as a trumpeter. George remained in Australia with relatives [but this all sounds a bit dubious]. The true story seems to be that he was born in Lahore of Australian parents. His father, a circus band-master, and his mother , a trapeze artist, were on tour at the time. There is some doubt about this story as well, but it is true that several Australian circuses regularly toured through South & Southeast Asia at this time. His professional career seems to have begun in 1936 touring g with George Sorlie's vaudeville show. In 1937 he joined Jim Davidson's ABC Dance Band, and in 1943 started his own band and was still leading a dance orchestra in the mid-1950s.
