Caledonia Jazzband

Norwegian jazz band in the New Orleans tradition. Since its inception in 1982, the band has combined innovation with deep knowledge of tradition in an engaging musical expression. Ever since its inception, the orchestra's trademark has been rooted New Orleans jazz, coupled with a creative ability to renew this tradition. Among other things, the orchestra has captured impulses from newer New Orleans music, and also has a repertoire with a large element of self-composed melodies. Caledonia Jazzband is one of the top echelons of European New Orleans bands, and has played at a number of festivals at home and abroad, including several times at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival. The orchestra has also toured in Sweden, Singapore and Slovakia, in addition to extensive concert activities in Norway. Caledonia Jazzband collaborates with international soloists, including trumpeters Wendell Brunious from New Orleans and Australian Geoff Bull. The collaboration has resulted in record recordings, and the orchestra has garnered much recognition for its four record releases.
