Asterisks were a popular 1980s disco/soca group from Layou, Saint Vincent. Basic lineup included, notably, trombonist Denniston (Dennis) Young – who went on to become a highly-lauded music arranger – & singers Ulric "Al" Wilson & Steve King. In 1981 the band had enormous success with their song (Yuh) Can't Wine that won the Vincy Road March title & helped them secure a contract with Straker's Records; they eventually gained their place among label's staples. In 1984 they went to New York to record their Soca Fusion album at the Brooklyn's famed Platinum Factory studio under Straker's own supervision, thus blazing a trail that would become their commuter route for years in future. Asterisks also worked with the legendary Vincentian soca singer, Alston “Becket” Cyrus. Around 1987 the group's nucleus - Young, Wilson & King, plus the keyboard player Osbert "Ozzy" Gurley - morphed into the Rebles, aka D'Rebels Band, that marched on into the nineties. Denniston Young passed away in 2009.
