Dimitris Tsakas completed his studies in classical guitar graduating with an “exceptional performance” award. He studied under scholarship at Berklee College of Music. His teachers were Andy Mc Gee, Jerry Bergonzi, George Garzone and Steve Wilson.He has taken part in a lot of record productions and live performances by many Greek and foreign artists, as well as some of the best musicians in the Greek jazz scene. His jazz band has taken part in concerts and festivals in Greece and abroad. In 2004, he formed the Out to lunch Trio along with Kostas Konstantinou and Kostas Kouvidis. In 2007, he performed as a soloist in the triple Vaggelis Papathanassiou album “Blade Runner Trilogy 25th Anniversary”. In May 2010, he released his debut album “Growing Up” which was recorded in New York and received excellent reviews by top musicians such as David Liebman. In January 2013, he presented, for the first time in Greece, the legendary piece “Charlie Parker with strings” performing as a soloist in collaboration with the ERT Contemporary Music Orchestra, a performance which gained some fine reviews. In June 2015, he performed as a soloist with the City of Athens Big Band along with the sensational drummer Ralph Peterson. In October 2015, he released his second album “A Man Dreams’, under Minos EMI-Universal, which he presented at Gazarte and live from The ERT Studio for ERT Radio 3 with great success. In December 2015, he presented, for the first time in Greece, Duke Pearson’s masterpiece “Cristo Redentor” in collaboration with the ERT National Symphonic Orchestra and Choir at their New Year’s Day concert. In 2016, he performed with the Athens State Orchestra as a soloist in Stephan Tsapis’ piece “Immigrant” and he appeared in “Transformations” at Onassis Cultural Centre along with Thomas Konstantinou and Panos Dimitrakopoulos. He is currently involved in various projects. A tour all over Greece with his band, performances with Eleftheria Arvanitaki’s band all over Europe, appearances with the Amoeba Trio Dimitrakopoulos,Konstantinou ,Tsakas ) at Onassis Cultural Centre for the 2017 Jazz Panorama with great success and music teaching.
