b. 1944, d. 12/20/2020 Ibu Ngatirah was born in 1944 in Klaten (Sabrang, Jurang Jero, Karanganom) and is considered, and officially named by the Indonesian government, a "pesindhen maestro." She was one of Ki Nartosabdho's mainstay singers, and most Condong Raos troupe recordings feature her together with the late Nyi Sutantinah —joined often in the later years by Nyi Suyatmi, and sometimes by Nyi Tugini, Narti Kusumo, and the late Ibu Padmi, Nyi Panuti, and others. But Bu Ngatirah and Bu Tantinah were mainstays. She was known for her individual sound (impossible to really describe in words) and her playful cengkok. She was also known as a "toughy"—she did not mince words, and did not take any harassment from male musicians or dhalang. She was a real individual and spirited, quirky.
