Roger Deegan (1928–2006) was a Canadian film composer from Turtleford, Saskatchewan. He received a MMus degree in composition from the University Of Southern California, where Roger took special classes in motion picture scoring under Miklós Rózsa and Ingolf Dahl. Deegan had been working in Los Angeles since 1949, but returned to Edmonton in 1967. The composer wrote music for over 100 films, including the award-winning documentary Long Lance by National Film Board Of Canada (receiving the Alberta Motion Picture Industries Association award for best musical score). Deegan is renowned for his use of unorthodox instruments, such as telephone poles and wrecking bars, to achieve the desired sound for a particular soundtrack.
