Sharmila

Female singer born in Moa, a small coastal village in vicinity of Tanga,Tanzania. Her second husband was Hassan Awadh, organist and composer with Black Star. She used to live in the same house as Shakila, and often looked after the children when Shakila went out to sing. They sang together at home but Sharmila was too shy to sing in public. It was only after Shakila left Black Star without a female singer that her husband convinced her to sing in public. Sharmila does not write or compose, she sings songs composed for her by her husband or Kibwana Saidi.
