American freelance engineer, producer, guitarist, and audio professional. Died c.2004. He engineered, especially, though not completely, in the field of Gospel music. He won an AES Nashville Lifetime Achievement Award in 2017. Cameron is credited with creating Nashville’s first mobile studio, Celebration Sound, with his own built mixing console. He built other consoles for other studios as well and made numerous improvements on consoles at the time including the first solo buttons and programmable mutes. He later was the owner of Bullfrog Audio in Nashville, Tennessee as well as Cameron Labs, which did modifications to microphones. Cameron was known in elite circles for producing some of the most sought-after microphones in the recording industry. He had impeccable ears and the technological knowhow to take a stock Neumann or Sennheiser, rebuild it, and impart it with a unique and highly musical sonic signature. Fred’s career resulted in many revolutionary innovations in microphone engine design, tube biasing, integration of materials and beyond.
