Svanfridur

Icelandic early 70s prog rock band. Svanfridur was founded in early 1972 by singer Pétr Kristjánsson, bass player Gunnar Hermannsson, guitarist Birgi Hrafnsson and drummer Sigurd Karlsson. The last two came from the band Ævintýri, which had enjoyed great popularity some time before. After non-stop playing they in late summer went to London to make a record. The album was made in record time (about forty studio hours) and was recorded by Roger Wilkinson, it was released in the fall and was called "What's Hidden There?" but it was released by the band itself under the label Svan. Unfortunately their effort went completely unnoticed.The band continued to play a lot in the winter of 1972-73, but in the summer of 1973 broke-up. However over the years the album has become increasingly sought after by collectors. The band was also revived in early 2012 and held a forty-year anniversary concert, featuring all previous members of the band except Pétur Kristjánsson (d. 2004) whose role was sung by Eiríkur Hauksson, Elvar Örn Friðriksson and Pétur Örn Guðmundsson.
