Roberto Cole

Puerto Rican musician and composer. Roberto Lafayette Cole Vázquez, artistically known as Roberto Cole, was born in Mayagüez, Puerto Rico, on September 7, 1915 and died on March 8, 1983, in Houston, Texas. Son of Mr. Frank Cole and Mrs. Belisa Vázquez, receives his elementary and secondary education in his hometown. Regarding his musical education, his own mother taught him to play the puerto rican "cuatro" and the guitar. He also received lessons from teachers José Antonio Gaudier and Alfredo Romero. In 1930 his first bolero "Sigue tu camino" appears in a record by Rafael Hernández y su Cuarteto Victoria. He was 15 years old at the time.
