Betty Boop is an animated cartoon character created by Max Fleischer in 1930. She is the main character of her series, the [I]Betty Boop[/I] shorts which appeared regularly between 1932 and 1939, and then sporadically in one-off shorts and Direct-to-TV films. She is often accompanied by her sidekicks, Bimbo and Koko the Clown, and she is known for her high pitched Boop-Oop-a-Doop catchphrase. Betty Boop is modeled after a pastiche of real life actresses and flapper icons including singer Helen Kane, actress Clara Bow, and Baby Esther of Harlem's Cotton Club (possibly a pseudonym for Gertrude Saunders).
