Swedish composer, born July 6, 1954 in Stockholm. He studied music privately in 1970-71, completed the upper secondary school's music line 1971-73, Birkagården Folk High School's music line 1973-75 and studied composition at the Stockholm Academy of Music for Professor Gunnar Bucht and others. 1979–83. Nilsson was a member of the prog group Östan Sol, Västan Måne 1970-79 and worked as a theater musician and composer at Stockholm City Theater and Riksteatern 1975-77. He made his debut as a composer with the first part of the orchestral trilogy Trois Pièces pour grand orchester at UNM in Copenhagen in 1981. He has since composed orchestral and chamber music and musical drama, including several symphonies, several instrumental concerts, string quartets and the opera Klassresan till eget libretto. In 2007, the opera Zarah, about Zarah Leander (libretto Claes Fellbom), premiered at the Folkoperan. The opera was given in 52 performances and was seen by over 25,000 people. In 2008, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra conducted a composers' weekend with his music. In 2013, he collaborated with Charlotte Engelkes and Sophie Holgersson in the opera "Kira - i huset där jag bor". He has participated as an article writer in e.g. the magazine Contemporary Music. In November 2010, his Requiem for Baritone, Choir and Orchestra was premiered. In the spring of 2011, the work won him the Music Association's Stockholm Prize and in the autumn of 2011 the Swedish Music Publishers' Association's prize. In the 2016-17 playing year, Anders Nilsson was named Västerås Sinfonietta's composer profile.
