Andre Schuster

Australian musician (violin & bass) - b. Transylvania 17 Dec. 1903 - d. Australia 1979. The son of a Lutheran pastor, Andre learnt music from the gypsies and played violin and double bass, and played in various groups. He claimed to have worked & recorded with Teddy Stauffer in Germany in the 1930s. He arrived in Melbourne, Australia in 1934. In 1956, he was a member and bass player of The Three Beats that also included Adriano Giusti on piano and Wally Wood on bongos. They released their EP "Samba Rhumba Time on Planet PZ 001. They played at the best known hotel in Melbourne. Leading his own group, The Andre Schuster Ensemble, he had a release two years later with "In Exotic Rhythm" on Planet PZ 017. It was also released on Planet's subsidary, The Andre Schuster Ensemble. He died in Fairfield, Victoria in 1979. His daughter is Australian artist, Karin Luciano.
