Taipei Jazz Orchestra

Taipei Jazz Orchestra, abbreviated TJO, in 2019 and 2020, was the Taipei Outstanding Performing Art Troupe. Formed in 2009, led by saxophonist Cheng-Yu Lee, this group consists of many talented, experienced musicians who are passionate to big band music. Taipei Jazz Orchestra rehearses weekly and has held several performances in the past year including concerts, promotional tour in campus, and shows in jazz club. Taipei Jazz Orchestra not only cooperated with the saxophonist Eric Marienthal, Singer Ono Lisa but also communicate with Blue Note Tokyo All-Star Jazz Orchestra by Taoyuan Band Festival. TJO is still active in all kinds of music festival in Taiwan. TJO hold Christmas concert and Big Band Madness, which is connect more than 14 big bands from Taiwan and overseas. Taipei Jazz Orchestra released multiple albums one after another, in 2011, the first album “Knives Out” , we invited Gene Aitken as a producer, who was awarded DownBeat magazine’s Jazz Educator of the Year and inducted into the DownBeat magazine’s Hall of Fame. And Jim Linahon, who was Grammy nomination, as a sound engineer. In 2014 we released the second album “Joy Chu Sings with Taipei Jazz Orchestra-Rose, Rose, I love you”; in 2019, we released “TJO Live 2009-2018” TJO 10th Anniversary album and the first album of Taiwanese Song Jazz Orchestra Commission Project“Kee- Lung Mountain”. Our plan of recording is still ongoing. Taipei Jazz Orchestra makes all aspects come together in which brass, saxophone and rhythm section. Except TJO is one of the most professional big band in Taiwan.
