Robert McGinnis

Orchestral Clarinetist (February 1, 1910 - January 1, 1976). McGinnis joined The Philadelphia Orchestra in the Autumn of 1930, and was Principal clarinet between 1931-1940. During the 1940-1941 season, McGinnis became the Principal clarinet of the The Cleveland Orchestra under Artur Rodzinski. During World War 2, 1942-1945, he was in the U.S. Navy Band. Following the War, he returned to the Cleveland Orchestra as Principal clarinet for one season, 1945-1946. Then, in the 1947-1948 season, McGinnis was Principal clarinet of the NBC Symphony Orchestra under Arturo Toscanini, and also taught at Juilliard. From 1948-1960, he was the principal clarinetist in New York Philharmonic Orchestra.
