South African R&B band Khalil (arabic for "a friend") was formed in 1995 by childhood friends from Temba, Pretoria and consist of an R&B vocal quartet, namely Tshepo aka Lyric, Kay, Jackie aka J Of K, and Bobson aka B-King. Discovered by Carl Eaton, who owned a management company with Mandoza and Enny Smith under the hood, they signed a contract 6 months after the group was founded. Khalil released their debut EP in 2000, which spawned hit singles such as "Feel the Vibe" Ft Loyiso and samples "Gypsy Woman" by Crystal Waters, which was on Metro FM's Local top 20 for more than 12 weeks. "Mama Said" also slotted in at position # 25 on YFM's top 100 singles for the year. In 2001, Khalil were nominated for two Metro FM awards for Best Duo/Group & Best R&B. They have shared the stage with International Jazz and R&B Superstars such as Kenny Lattimore, Chanté Moore, Erykah Badu, George Duke. In 2004, they released their debut full- length studio album "Experience" (sometimes marketed as "Let Me In"). Produced by Ziggy adolph and featuring Aluta, Ill Scientist, and Capsolys, the album’s first single, “Reed Dancin’,” hit # 1 on South Africa’s FM Top 20 in 2004. Khalil also teamed up for the album with British hit songwriter Adrian Zagoritis, a member of the exciting Pig Factory production team that has produced songs for Britney Spears, Anastasia, Celine Dion, and Usher, among many others. Let Me In has sold over 50,000 copies, earning the CD platinum status in South Africa.
