Swedish pianist, jazz musician, arranger and composer, born April 10, 1949 in Stockholm. He was educated at the Stockholm Academy of Music 1970-74 and Berklee College of Music. He has been teaching at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm since 1978. He was awarded the Jan Johansson Scholarship in 1978. He played in Red Mitchell's group Communication (4) for many years. He has collaborated and made recordings with, among others, Lee Konitz, Dexter Gordon, Art Farmer, Helen Merrill, Joe Newman, Bernt Rosengren, Thad Jones and Clark Terry. He has been part of The Stockholm Jazz Orchestra since 1990 and has composed the music for "Lakes" (2000), "Sailing" (2004) and "Ikaros" (2009). Strandberg has also worked with the Scottish National Orchestra, Estonian Dream Band and Umo Jazz Orchestra (Finland). A current project is "Göran Strandberg Nonet" with the recording of "Monks Mood" in 2012. Also the ongoing project with Sebastian Voegler (percussion) with two CD releases; “Emergence” (2012) and “Going Places” (2015).
