In the intensive care ward of a Parisian hospital, a man in bed « I think ‘God’ is a great name for a solo artist. » His five-year-old daughter, Lily: « I think ‘Spaceman‘ is better. » Six Million Miles From Nowhere is the debut album by Spaceman, formerly know as Stephan James or Stephen Munson, the lead singer of Living In Texas, cult UK psychedelic punksters, renegade rockers from the 80s who were born and bred in Colchester and lived in London. Refusing to adhere to any etiquette, unpredictable and unmanagable, living and always resisting any urge to reform, Living In Texas' recorded catalogue is as impressive as it is diverse, spanning the eight years of their existence. In 1997, Munson was rushed to hospital with a suspected heart-attack and decided in his hospital bed that he would ‘play’ alone from now on as Spaceman. For his first concert, he asked the godfather of lo-fi, the American Dogbowl, to come down to his rehearsal to make sure his set was okay. He then recorded alone on his 4 track and with others at Blue Sky studios in Paris. The songs were never released. The studio closed. He continued to play live right up to 2015. Meeting Confuse (Christelle Canot) one half of In Case Of Fire, multi-instrumentalist for Merryn Jeann, Jeanne Added and Adam Naas, was his epiphany. She was the other half he had been waiting for and at the end of 2018 they tentatively started to work on the definitive Spaceman solo album. Nine songs he had already retained from 1999/2000, but another 16 would be added through 2019 and 2020, recorded and produced by Confuse between Marseille and Paris and with musicians from around the world.
