Peter Slavov (Melon) was a legendary, Bulgarian drummer born August 13, 1941 in Sofia. He began his career in the 1950's when he joined the Optimists Orchestra aged 17. Later, he joined Jazz Focus 65 (Джаз Фокус-65), the first Bulgarian modern jazz unit to record and tour in Western Europe. In 1967, they were awarded the Audience Prize at the then new Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland. 1978 - 2006 he was the drummer and leader the successful Bulgarian prog rock band ФСБ (FSB), and he debuted on their 2nd LP, II.. In 1988, FSB worked on the Grammy-winning album [m639721]. Peter Slavov passed away 1 April 2008 in Sofia, Bulgaria. He is the father of New York City-based jazz bassist Peter Slavov Jr.
