Regensburger Kantorei

The Regensburg Kantorei has two founding dates. In 1542, Protestant church music was founded at the same time as the first Protestant Last Supper in the Neupfarrkirche. For centuries, a student choir made up of alumni organized the evangelical services. In the 19th century, choral music passed into the hands of committed middle-class amateur singers: in 1888 the "Protestant Church Choir e.V." was founded. Located at the Dreieinigkeitskirche, the choir was rebuilt in 1967 by Walter Opp with many young singers. He also gave the choir its present name "Regensburger Kantorei" and thus emphasized its non-denominational character.
