Lodovico Fogliani

Italian music theorist best known meticulously explaining the monochord aka sonometer, which is an ancient musical and scientific laboratory instrument involving one string or chord. He is also famous for his book Musica Theoretic from 1529 in which he preceded Zarlino in declaring the correct proportion of the major third to be 4:5, and in distinguishing between the major and minor (greater and lesser) semitones. In Petrucci’s Frottole (1504–08) are some specimens of his compositions.
