Scotish pipe major, active in the Crimea-war 1853-1856, when being pipe major for the British empire, which supported, alongside the Sardinian empire, the osman empire in that war. By a legend, he wrote the Scotish pipe standard "The Green Hills Of Tyrol", when he listened to an unknown military band from Sardinia during that war and adapted that musical piece for pipe and drums.
