Kingsize Funk is a meeting of like-minded individuals from Los Angeles, Chicago and Blackpool and they happen to be DJ titans Doc Martin and DJ Sneak plus studio bod and Shaboom man, Mark Bell. Mark had been working with Doc Martin in Safe Studios for a number of years and was constantly badgering Sneak to join him in north-west's own Sun City. On one of his many UK tours, Sneak eventually crumbled and hit Blackpool armed only with a bag of disco cuts and a huge bag of double depth northern lights which then went up in smoke and the partnership was forged. The first of the results was the massive 'Release the Pressure' where they enlisted the vocal talents of New York diva Lola to create a finely tuned disco monster that became the sound of summer 2000. It was hammered by everybody from Eric Morillo to Danny Rampling and brushed the upper reaches of the national UK charts, going on to sell over 20,000 copies and being licensed to numerous compilations. Still to come in 2001 is the next installment , The Summer Song which is an acoustic guitar driven slice of house with Lola again adding her magic touch. Mixes come from Paperecordings' Crazy Penis and Philadelphia tech-head Philip Charles so prepare early for your summer soundtrack.
