Singer-songwriter Vasco Rossi – born February 7, 1952, in Zocca, Emilia-Romagna, Italy - is one of most successful Italian rock and pop performers with a career spanning four decades. He began recording in 1978 with the release of his debut album ...Ma Cosa Vuoi Che Sia una Canzone... and since those early days, he has risen to the top of the Italian music business. Rossi is a controversial and outspoken figure whose lyrics and lifestyle have often attracted negative comments from critics. One of the more outlandish claims the singer has made is that he was prevented from playing in London for 20 years as part of a conspiracy by the American and UK governments to stifle the growth of Italian music in order to favor homegrown talent. As a solo artist, he has recorded 30 albums, the most successful being his 1993 release Gli Spari Sopra. The album achieved a 10-time platinum status and spawned the major hit “Celebrate”, a cover version of a track originally written by the Irish rock band An Emotional Fish. After retiring from touring in 2011, he later rescinded his decision and continued to tour. He also continued to record music including albums such as Sono innocente (2014), Vascononstop (2016), and Siamo qui (2021) and singles including “Un mondo migliore” (2016), “Se Ti Potessi Dire” (2019), and “La Pioggia Alla Domenica” (2021). In addition to his solo work, Rossi is a prolific songwriter and has written more than 250 songs recorded by other artists, with the combined record sales of his solo work and songwriting having been estimated at more than 35 million units.
