US songwriter, producer from Chicago, IL. Related to the publisher Much More Music and the company International Recording Co.. Started his career as a music producer in the middle-‘60s working with local Chicago area rock bands including 1966 releases on the Royal Blue label from the Paniks, Lou Capri, and the Wild. Johnson also notches songwriting credits on singles by Lowell Shyette and the Edges of Wisdom, both of whom released singles on the Redd Robb label in 1966. And you can find his credits on other releases from Holocaust, the Corsican Brothers and Salant. Brother of Rick Johnson. Having the recording studio, they could fill up time with artists on their label. And having the record store chain, they had an outlet for their Dharma Records (4) releases. Around 1978 they bought Triad Radio (at the time broadcasting on brokered time on WXFM/Chicago 105.9) and Triad Magazine. They eventually sold the radio end to one of Triad's original founders (Don Bridges). They kept the free music magazine going for a few more years changing it from a glossy-covered saddle-stitched magazine to a fold-over newsprint format. These media outlets gave them places to promote their releases. Perry Johnson eventually sold his half of the business to his brother Rick and moved to Florida to start a video business near Gainesville. Perry Johnson retired and is now living in Southeast Asia.
