Jonny Røstad

Norwegian jazz musician (multiple instruments) and band leader, 1911-1984. Active as a jazz musician already from the age of 14. Bassist in Trondheim Symphony Orchestra 1943-75 when his deteriorating eyesight forced him to quit as an active musician (but remained employed in other roles). During WW2, a young German soldier by the name of Helmut Zacharias sat in with Røstad's orchestra at Astoria on several occasions.
