Singer is an experimental rock band started in 2007. The group has a traditional instrumental setup of bass, guitars, drums and Rhodes keyboards with all four members performing vocals. Their music is heavily influenced by freak folk, psychedelia, free jazz, as well as indie rock. Singer was formed by Adam Vida and Todd Rittmann, members of the soon-to-be-disbanded U.S. Maple, who invited Adam's brother Ben Vida (playing with Town and Country and solo as Bird Show) to start a new improv project. After struggling as a trio for a while, Singer added Robert Aubrey Lowe to the line-up, who previously collaborated with Ben on Lichens tour. Singer played a few shows and received positive reactions from the crowd. Consequently, the band was signed up by Drag City, who released their debut album Unhistories in March 2008.
