Ricardo Martínez Leal was born on 1953, January 9 in Monterrey, Nuevo León. He is a graduate of the Faculties of Architecture and Music —in which he received a Bachelor's degree in Music and Composition— from the Autonomous University of Nuevo León ( uanl ) , and a PhD in Musical Composition from the University of Manchester, England. In 1977 he entered the Monterrey Superior School of Music and Dance ( inbal ) as a founding student, where he studied analysis and composition, as well as ethnomusicology with maestro Arturo Salinas. In the summers of 1976, 1978 and 1979 he studied composition and electroacoustic music in the city of Victoria, BC , Canada, with teachers Rudolf Komorous, Martin Bartlett and John Celona, a country to which he returned in 1980 to reside for three years. , and studying composition, electroacoustic music, analysis and theory, instrumentation and orchestration at the University of Victoria. Within the electroacoustic genre he has created the Explorations series : 41 volumes ( cd 's) containing 151 electronic works with different sound sources, and Electrophonias, based on live electroacoustic compositions, among many others that have been performed in Mexico, Canada, the United States, England, the Netherlands, Poland and Cuba. His work has been premiered and performed by internationally renowned musicians such as the BBC Philharmonic, the English contemporary music ensemble Psappha, The Lindsay String Quartet, The Manchester University New Music Ensemble, The Victoria University Wind Ensemble, the Latin American Quartet and the Symphony Orchestra. of the uanl , to mention a few. He is a pioneer in the field of electroacoustic music in the northeast of our country; He was the first composer from Monterrey to offer a concert of this musical style in that entity, in 1978. With the support of university bodies, in 1990 he founded the Electroacoustic Music Laboratory of the UANL Music Faculty, of which he is the owner . His experience has been fundamental in the formation of several generations of composers. He has been a Disciplinary Evaluator and Specialized Evaluator of the Council for the Accreditation of Higher Education in the Arts. He has been a master adviser at the H. University Council of the uanl since 2008 and a member of the academic commission of the Faculty of Music of the uanl since 2007. Some of his scores have been published through the uanl Publications Department . Due to his career and professional development in the field of electroacoustic music, he has received various distinctions such as the uanl Arts Award and the uanl Commemorative Medal (2007) for his valuable contribution to creation within the listening arts. In 2021 the Society of Authors and Composers of Mexico ( sacm ) awarded him the Trajectory 25 Years recognition for his career as a composer.
