German director, b. 1903 in Dux, in the Sudetenland. Studied in Leipzig and Prague, worked mainly in Dresden but also in Bremen and Aussig. Composed an opera, Taras Bulba, in the early 1930s. Was music director in Dresden for the month of August 1948, during which time he conducted three performances of Janáček's Katja Kabanowa.
