As word spread of the popular and well-liked performer’s demise late Monday afternoon, disbelief, shock and sadness were the most common emotions expressed by persons who knew Masud. It was rumored that Masud suffered from an extended bout of depression, a side of him most never saw, as the Old Road/Verchilds native was described as an extremely positive and vibrant young man with a zest for life. Masud leaves behind his wife Charmaine and two young children ages 5 and 3, along with his parents, siblings and many relatives, friends and his fans around the world. Just two weeks prior to his death, the young star was announced as one of the Soca acts for the 16th Annual St. Kitts Music Festival. Masud Sadiki, known for his Reggae/World music, was slated to perform as Stitch in Time. Masud placed an impressive 1st in this past Power Soca Competition with “Party Hearty” and second in the Groovy Monarch category with “You make your clothes look good”. Masud was named The St. Kitts-Nevis Observer’s Person of the Year for 2011. He was described as one of the region’s most versatile and talented entertainers. In April 2010, Masud was one of a handful of regional artistes selected to represent the United Nation’s “Unite to end violence against women” campaign, touring places like Palestine, United Kingdom and South America. When asked what he wanted his legacy to be, he told this media house, “I want to be remembered as a connector of people; that is why I always push positive messages in my music. I want my music to inspire people, make them feel good. Once I’ve accomplished that I’ll be in my grave smiling.”
