Canadian singer-songwriter and keyboard player born in Montréal on July 10th, 1943 and died February 10th, 1995. He started as a member of The Scepters in the mid-60's. Later became a songwriter with partner Bob Bilyk, writing songs for the like of Les Sceptres (a different act than the one Butler was in), Trini Lopez, Ginette Reno, Tommy Hunter (2), and The Bells (2). Butler won $10,000 in the Hear Canada Singing contest for the tune "Can You Hear The Music" which soon led to a recording contract with Columbia Records. His home base was in Montreal but frequently worked in Toronto to be nearer Bilyk. He went to WAM Records in the late '70s where he released several singles with arranger/producer Leon Aronson. In the early 1980s he signed to RCA Records.
