Sergejs Dukas also Sergejs Duka (1902-1973) was a Latvian musician, choir conductor. Organized the festival of Latvian songs and created arrangements of folk songs. One of the signatories of the memorandum of the Central Council of Latvia of March 17, 1944.[1] Curriculum vitae Born on January 15, 1902 in "Baranos" of Beļava parish.[2] Studied at Riga spiritual school and seminary, then music pedagogy under E. Vīgner at the Institute of Phonology. Until 1932, he studied music theory with J. Kārkliņš, composition with J. Vītola and conducting with P. Jozuus at the Latvian Conservatory. He was the conductor of the mixed choir of the singing society "Daina"[3] from 1924 to 1942[5], the conductor of the choir of the cultural society of Krustpils and surroundings[6]. He was the founder (1932) and director (1934-1935) of the Rēzekne Folk Conservatory, the chief conductor of the 3rd Latgale Song Festival (1935) and the Jaunlatgale County Song Festival (1936). He also participated in the preparation of the 7th, 8th and 9th General Song Festivals, worked at Latvian Radiophone and led the men's choir "Dziedonis" (1939). At the end of the Second World War, he moved to Lytene, where he worked as a teacher (1944-1957), organized and led a choir. He was the chief conductor of the Gulbene district song festival. In 1957, he moved to Smiltene, where he established and managed the Smiltene music school, led the Smiltene men's choir "Dziedonis". Died on June 4, 1973 in Smiltene, buried in Stämerien.[7]
