Lighting designer, active in all genres of theatre, b. 1971 (Vienna), d. 2022 (Vienna). Studied technical chemistry in Linz. Began work with lighting design at Posthof Linz (music venue), went on to direct lighting for numerous Vienna and Salzburg Festival productions (1997-). Took over lighting design for various independent dance productions (2002-). Was particularly associated with director Christoph Marthaler's work (2005-). Travelled worldwide, in Europe but also to Japan, Greenland ("Plus Minus Zero - A Sub-Polar Base Camp" in Nuuk) and Chile. Opera productions he lit include Stefan Herheim's Contes d'Hoffmann (Offenbach), 2015; Le nozze de Figaro (Mozart), Hamburg, 2015; Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg (Wagner), revival, Opera Bastille, Paris (2016); La Cenerentola (Rossini), 2016-2017; Tristan und Isolde (Wagner), Graz, 2016-2017; Aida (Verdi), Tyrolean Festival, 2019. Also designed lighting for many non-operatic dramas. Noted as a teacher, he gave classes in lighting design at the Akademie Der Bildenden Künste Wien (2013-).
