Rudy Starr was an American rock and soul singer and a recording artist, born November 30, 1949 in Toledo, Ohio suburb Sylvania. She performed professionally as a redhead, country artist under the name Connie Little already at the age of 9, and as a grownup she was still little, weighing in at a mere 90 pounds (41 kg). In 1969, she joined Ruby Jones. After the release of their debut album in 1971, she was approached by Jim Dandy of Black Oak Arkansas after a concert at Evanville, Indiana who asked her to join his band, which she did in 1973. She changed her name to Ruby Starr, and already in 1974 she began touring on her own, releasing her first, selftitled album with Ruby Starr & Grey Ghost in 1974. She released two more albums as Ruby Starr in 1976 and 1977, and kept on touring with Black Oak Arkansas, as well as Blackfoot, Edgar Winter and Black Sabbath. In the late 70s she'd moved to Milwaukee, Wisconsin where she became a popular club act. In the 90s, she performed at clubs on The Strip and various hotels in Las Vegas, but when she was diagnosed with lung cancer and a brain tumor, she moved back to her family in Toledo where she died on January 14, 1995.
