Filipe Zau was born in Lisbon because his father was a sailor born in Cabinda (the enclave region in northern Angola), and his mother was Cape Verdean. He was a musician playing with groups such as the Duo Ouro Negro. It was requested for the band "Alerta Está", which gave concerts by the military barracks. One of his colleagues was drummer Guilherme Inês (Zoo, José Cid). He landed in Luanda on April 1st, 1975. He contacts Portuguese musicians such as Fausto, Zeca Afonso, Vitorino, Sérgio Godinho. In 1990 he will act as cultural attaché of the Angolan Embassy in Lisbon. In 1996 is recorded the operetta entitled "O Canto da Sereia: o Encanto" in honor of his father and in which he was co-author with Filipe Mukenga. In that year it launches the album "Luanda Lua e Mulher". Capeverdean singer Celina Pereira records "Raiva di vulcão" (lyrics by Filipe Zau and music by Filipe Mukenga) on her 1998 album "Harpejos e gorgeios". Records also with Celina Pereira the theme "Na breu di nha note" from the album "Estória, estória…: do tambor a Blimundo". Filipe Zau and Filipe Mukenga received the Common Ground Music Award 2008, granted by the Search for Common Ground Association, in May 2008, during the presentation session of the CD "Angola solta a tua voz", where the two musicians also collaborated. Both also collaborated with the Associação Unidos do Caxinde in "Os Nosso Reis", a song from the Luanda Carnival 2008. The CAN 2010 anthem "Angola, país de futuro" is by the duo Filipe Mukenga / Filipe Zau, accompanied by the Banda Maravilha.
