Barbershop baritone vocalist. Born on June 24, 1955, Mike and his wife of 42 years, Denise, are both native San Diegans. Their family includes son, Evan and daughter, Allyson, her husband, John and two grandchildren, Eleanora and Harrison. Mike joined the Barbershop Harmony Society (BHS) in 1981 and began singing in quartets immediately. He has sung both lead and baritone in many foursomes, including the Far Western District crowd favorite, Quackenbush. Mike has earned two Far Western District Quartet Championships. First, singing baritone in 1994 with Western Union and the second with Revival in 1997. Winning the International Quartet Gold Medal in 1998 with Revival was a dream come true. Overall, Mike has competed in quartets on the BHS International Contest stage 7 times. As a chorus singer, he’s competed twice with San Diego’s Sun Harbor Chorus, earning an International 5th place bronze medal in 1991, and 3 times with the Masters of Harmony, winning a gold medal in 2017. Mike has demonstrated his musical and administrative leadership talents as assistant director, section leader, show chairman and a host of other chapter and quartet duties. He has also served on the faculty of several barbershop harmony education workshops and loves coaching quartets and choruses – especially high school and college level groups.
